A hand lingers by
the wood of a door
poised to knock
too afraid to move
A body turned to ice
Steps slowing to a crawl
Every sound is far too loud
Every movement too much
And though the call was made
And you were told to come in
You stay by the door
Fearful of everything and nothing
Voices in the distance
Always talking about you
Your hair, your clothes, your walk
Judging and hissing like vipers
When will you learn
that you don't have to be afraid
that your fears aren't real
that we want you to come in?
When will you learn
that it's okay to breathe
that it's okay to live
that it's okay to be?
When will I learn?
When will I learn?

The home was very nice. Dark purple linens hung on rings of silver around the room, gold and precious stones surrounded him on every side. This home clearly belonged to a very wealthy man, no doubt in the service of the king. So naturally, assassins would be nearby.
As Alfred watched the body fall to the ground, he wondered how on earth he had gotten himself involved in this. He never meant to hurt anybody! Yet as the blood seeped from the wounds in the official's chest, he felt a deep guilt that welled up into his throat, pushing a flood of tears up with it.
"No! How could this happen?!" He screamed, wide, terrified eyes gazing in horror a

A young woman brushed away the snow by the grave, making just enough room for her to lay down a candle. She rubbed her hands together, trying desperately to keep warm. It wasn’t like the ice and snow really bothered her anymore. She just hadn’t felt much of anything in the past year.
"Alfred, I just… I wanted to apologize…" She pulled out a letter that she had spent all year working on, finally teaching herself how to write everything she wanted to say in English.
"I’m still not very good at English… But I tried my best…" She drew a match from her coat pocket, striking it and lighting t
The hardness of the wooden floor, hardly an appropriate nor comfortable spot to lie down in total uselessness. A cold nose on a blank face, chilled by the winter air leaking in through the windows. Muscles cramping up and bones painfully pressed against solid oak.
The logical response would be to simply get up before all feeling is lost in the limbs. But, some days logic just doesn't sound like a viable option anymore. Instead, being impracticable and utterly useless to society is the only inviting choice.
Staring up at the ceiling is the only option. Occasionally shifting about in a vain attempt to make the floor a bit more comfortable. Bu
"When will you realize that you aren’t like them? When will you understand that we don’t get the luxury of free will? Everything we do is for our kingdoms. We are our kingdom." He stopped, facing away from the woman who sat quietly on the bed in the small tent, tears pricking her eyes.
"A- Avery… I only want to live as they do. To love as they do. This life is so unfair to our kind!" Her fragile voiced cracked in sorrow.
"Our kind are not meant to live as mortals live." He reminded her gently. "All that matters to us is keeping our empires alive. Mortals can create and live and thrive. We only survive."

You stir slowly, the bright lights shining down upon your closed eyelids. Strange, yet familiar scents surround you. Scents of maple and coffee, of an ocean breeze, of winter air, of old wood and parchment, of pine and freshly fallen snow.
A silence rings in your ears, a peaceful silence that calms you, bringing back empty memories of dreams that you never had. A cool summer's night laying in the grass on a blanket, staring up at stars above, laughing and clinging to a nameless warmth. A cold night before a fireplace, leaning against warmth and covered with kisses and a handmade quilt. A string of whispered words at twilight, passionate love
"What a beautiful wedding." Liechtenstein sighed, gazing in wonder at her friend's beautiful dress. She hoped one day to have a dress as beautiful as that. Weddings were always so gorgeous. So full of love.
Hungary smiled at her friend from her place beside Austria.
"What a beautiful wedding."
Switzerland nodded, just coming back from serving more wine to a guest.
"Yes. But what a shame." He replied.
Liechtenstein tilted her head, confused.
He pointed at England beating France with a camera.
"What a shame the camera man is trying to murder one of the guests."
The rest of the guests ignored the forever warring pair.
I lay on my bed, motionless, my head hanging off the back end of the structure of softness. I wonder if my heart was still beating. I can't tell. All I feel is a cold chasm, hopelessly pumping more misery through my all but lifeless body.
I don't know what I expected. Though, a part of me always knew that something would go wrong.
I'm not the kind of person to just get good things in life. No, that would be too easy.
I thought life had finally decided to toss a dash of hope and happiness into my heart. But knowing the way life works, that was a foolish belief.
No tears escape my eyes. I have no reason to cry. Everyone in the world would

The cold of the night surrounded her, red fingers gently holding a newborn wrapped in swaddling cloths, crying softly. Carolina tried all she could to keep her little girl warm, but she could hardly do anything. The child would not sleep, and she didn't think she could last much longer on her own. In desperation, she licked her dry lips and began a soft lullaby, though she knew her voice was not very good. "Sleep, child, sleep. Let your dreams carry you. Haste, child, haste. To the world of slumber. Dream, daughter, dream. Of a world without a war. Sleep, child, sleep. And cry no more."

I'm a sad, broke college student who looks back upon the things I wrote in high school and cringes. You probs won't see me post anything on here anymore, but if I do, expect it to be a hell of a lot better than my first few stories. God I need to sell some makeup so I can feed myself this weekend.

A notice to future me: go through this crap sometime and archive the good stories, then delete everything cringey so posterity doesn't have to know you were a massive weeb. I would do it but I'm studying for the LSAT, being a productive member of soc...
